Tom Grogan to Davies Plains Hut
About the Track
Track Description

 Easy in Good weather. Mediun to Difficult in Wet.

This is a fairly easy track Starting from The Tom Grogan Campsite  just off the Alpine Way in Kosciuszko National Park to Dave Plains Hut. Follow the track into Tom Grogan campsite until you reach the Murray River. BE CAREFUL if you have not crossed here before and check the depth of the river as it can be deep after rain or melting snow and near impossible to cross. After the river crossing you will see a sign pointing you in the right direction.

There are a lot of great camping spots along this track mostly beside the Murray River (on your Left side). Be prepared for some steep climbes and narrow sections on this track the closer you get to Davies Hut and good ground clearance is needed. If it has been raining and you dont have "chunky tyres" you might be better off camping at one of the campsites along the river.

Location of Davies Hut;

On the Davies Plain Track, about 17.8Km south of the NSW border.

Shown on the Bairnsdale-Swifts Ck map.

Contrary to  reports, this hut was NOT burnt down in the 2003 fires.

11304 This is were we locked the hubs on our High Country trip. Nice drive, river was down, should be avoided in the wet. Defiantly not the toughest track in the Alpine NP. Average fuel consumption 19L/100km. Toyota Landcruiser Dec 24, 2012
35977 only a quick trip from thredbo in summer, just to drive through the murry onto Vic soil and back again. looks like great camping Toyota Landcruiser Nov 19, 2012
36152 Great little trip day from Thredbo. Camping by the rMurray was great. Aimed to go over the range the day after but it rained solidly for 24hrs and the river went up almost a metre. The warning about the murray crossing is correct it was treacherous for +24hrs. The flow was strong well after the rain was gone and the river started to lower and the track was nearly dry. 513 Didn't get too the hut but the track condition was rough and many trees had fallen over it. The Prado had no issue in the river crossing but walked it first to get the line right. A curved route through the 1st river crossing running close to the rapids was the best. With a full touring weight it wasn't the best track to run on. If I had a trailer/camper would have been a breeze but carrying everything either on the roof or in the back just made the track that little harder than it was. Toyota Prado Dec 20, 2009

5878 I did this track on a 4 day trip from Corryong into the Nariel Valley accross Mt Gibbo (1750m) to Tom G down to Davies Plain then through the Limestone Creek track and finishing in Omeo. Amazing part of the world, would recommend it to everone. Would be difficult with bad weather. Nissan Patrol Jan 10, 2008

13254 Headed North from Native Dog Flat (nice campsite)+ side trip up Ramshorn? in thunderstorm. Easy going, great scenery and hut,camped near hut, icy water. Clearance and LR used on descent to Murray, crossed river 1/3 up doors. Could have been interesting if river was up more. Fantastic trip. Highly recommended. Nissan Patrol
