December 2012. Barkly River Road begins at its western end on the Jamieson Licola Road. It is 12Kms long until it reaches the junction of Middle Ridge Rd and the Australian Alpine Walking Trail (AAWT). This section of the AAWT is unofficially called Mt Sunday Track.
Now, the Barkly River Rd is officially of two parts; the Barkly River Logging Rd, and past Rumpff’s Saddle, it is the Barkly River Jeep Track. Currently we only call the Jeep Track the section from near Mt Skene, off the Jamieson Licola Road that steeply runs down to the Barkly River Rd. Just to be pedantic: there are official names on Government records and these, sometimes evolve over time, with map makers making spelling mistakes. This road in 2012 was dry-weather 2WD the whole of its length, with no drainage berms across it.
