About the Track

Track Description

Stage 1: Mittagong to Wombeyan Caves ... Easy track for 2WD, AWD, & 4WD. The track is steep and narrow and there is a lot of pot holes due to the recent rain. The caves make a great place for a break before heading onto Taralgar. There are campsites at the Wollindilly River and at Wombeyan Caves.

Stage 2: Wombeyan Caves to Taralgar ... Again easy for 2WD, AWD, & 4WD. This road is in better condition than the first half of the trip and appears to be better maintained. Taralgar has a number of excellent places to stop for lunch (cafe\'s, pub with excellent counter meals, corner store\'s, etc).

                                It's a regular drive for us.  And we make our return trip from taralga- to bannaby... And take the dirt rd on the right at the shearing sheds.. "swallow tail pass" then left at brayton . Through to canyonleigh back to the Illawarra hwy... It's about a 4hour round trip..

                                Windy road. Took me about 2 hrs. Easy driving.  nice places to camp. Next time I will take my tent. :)

                                Track was bein graded at time of travel so from goodmans ford to the caves from the caves to taralga still rough from all the tourist traffic.But still a nice relaxing drive.
